Around 4,000 school children are expected to make the annual visit to the show at Stoneleigh, and will be given the opportunity to explore the work of those living in the countryside, how food is produced and the leisure activities available in the great outdoors.

There will be themed trails sponsored by ASDA, Co-op and Waitrose, which will provide opportunities to find out more about the work of those living in the countryside, how food is produced and what leisure activities there are in the great outdoors. The trails will follow themes such as healthy living and signpost the young explorer to exhibitors who have expressed a willingness to welcome children: these cover all aspects of the food chain from meeting livestock through to sampling cheese.

The children’s farm sponsored by ASDA is a mobile educational farming display supplied by Farms2ewe. It will be bringing a selection of farm and domestic animals to the Royal Show and will be offering an interactive display and interpretation boards for visitors. Their emphasis is on hands on interactions with the animals and these will include newly hatched chicks, ducklings, calves and many more.

The 2008 event will come at the end of the Year of Food and Farming, which Royal Show organisers, the Royal Agricultural Society of England, has taken a central role – hosting a number of events and managing the national budget. The Education Trail will support the legacy of this by continuing to bring education and farming closer together.
