The Organiser
As England’s premier agricultural event, the Royal Show requires organisation of military precision. This is just one of the reasons why Simon Frere-Cook is just the man for the job.
Simon left the army in 1997, having served 23 years in the infantry, to work on the family farm in Lincolnshire. Here he was involved in sheep and arable farming, as well as estate management. In 2002 Simon was appointed as Chief Executive of the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society before joining the Royal Agricultural Society (RASE) in 2007. He was appointed Director to the Royal Show in March 2007.
Simon, therefore, has a great understanding of the farming industry and is passionate about ensuring the Royal Show promotes the best of British agriculture.
Based at RASE’s head office at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire – the home of the Royal Show for over 40 years – he manages a permanent team of 12, who run the entire Royal including, among other things, equine events (the Royal Show is one of the biggest events in the British equine calendar); the livestock competitions, the Food hall and farmers market, the entertainment in the Grand Ring and the Flower and Gardening area.
Apart from making sure that the thousands of visitors who are expected to attend the show over the four-days have a great day out, Simon and his team are also responsible for making sure that all exhibitors (many of whom stay on site to look after animals) are catered for.
The show starts on Thursday 3rd July, and runs until Sunday 6th July for further information on the Royal Show or to book tickets please visit www.royalshow.org.uk.
