Kids go large on learning about food and farming at the Royal Show
Thousands of school children walked the Education Trail at this year’s Royal Show and learnt all about the food that makes up their daily diet.
When the Royal ended its four-day run today, children off all ages had been given a special insight into the food they eat, had chances to bake their own bread, see the animals which produce their meat and milk and to understand how crops are grown in the English countryside.
The Royal Show came at the end of the Year of Food and Farming and launched a legacy of activity that is designed to keep the link between the two firmly in the minds of both teachers and students in the years ahead.
Bill Graham, Chief Executive of Farming and Countryside Education (FACE) hailed the success of the area and paid tribute to its sponsors.
“Children of all ages, their parents and teachers have flocked to the Education Trail, the whole education area and the Children’s Farmyard. They all rated it very highly and loved the interactive nature of the event. All our participating organisations gave us huge and support – particularly ASDA, the Co-op, Sainsbury’s and Waitrose who all sponsored key parts of the activity. It was a tremendous success.”
