Our Family Profiles:
Food Exhibitor (Staffordshire)
Top attraction at the Royal Show has always been its offering of the best of British food and drink. And 2008 is no exception, with British ales and wines; meat and cheese, breads and pastries all vying for a place in the showgoers' shopping bag.
None will be keener to grab the consumers’ attention than sister and brother team, Jackie Beaumont and Duncan Hindley from Staffordshire-based Hindleys Bakery. They will be selling rolls made from Hindleys' fresh specialist doughs, filled with locally sourced produce, as well as Hindleys' own delicious cakes and pastries.
Their approach really reflects the spirit of the Royal Show, which runs from July 3rd to 6th at Stoneleigh Park, Kenilworth Warwickshire. It offers an ideal opportunity for consumers to find out more about where their food comes from. As consumers increasingly seek out local produce, it is good to see Show exhibitors like the Hindleys following a policy of sourcing ingredients from as close to home as possible – saving food miles and encouraging local enterprise.
The Lichfield based family run bakery was set up in 1893 by Jackie and Duncan's Great-Great Grandfather, and comprises a bakery, café and shop. All bakery products are prepared behind clear glass windows, to allow customers to see exactly how the breads and other products are made. The company also offers a range of bread baking and cake decorating courses for those who are interested in finding out how food they regularly purchase is made.
This is the second year that Hindleys will exhibit at the Royal Show. Jackie thoroughly enjoyed the show experience last year, and believes the event was great for meeting customers' face-to-face - past, present and future.
Hindleys is repositioning its business as a specialist bakery with a focus on local produce and will be tailoring activity at the Royal Show to educate visitors about local produce and the people behind it. The other major advantage of exhibiting at the show is the chance to allow potential customers to taste the produce, which is always a popular option!
Food and drink buyers will have to main ports of call at the Show with a large and varied Farmers Market outside and a specialist Food Hall under cover which has a wide array of food to eat on the day or to take home and stock the freezer.
