Christian Aid recreating a Burkina Faso garden at this years Royal Show
Christian Aid will re-create a small piece of Burkina Faso, West Africa, in the Flower, Garden and Horticultural Area at this years Royal Show. It will be used to highlight Christian Aid’s Climate Changed campaign and raise vital funds for climate related projects across Africa, Asia and Latin America.
The garden will showcase how farmers in Western Africa are adapting to an ever changing climate and will also demonstrate simple soil and water conservation techniques used to help combat the threats of drought and floods.
Alex James, former Blur band member will also be at the show, on Thursday 3d July, to help highlight the issues farmers face due to climate change in developing countries. He will be travelling to Burkina Faso in early May.
Karen Hedges, Christian Aid, said “Christian Aid is delighted to be involved in the Royal Show 2008. Much of the work we fund in developing countries is to farming communities who are suffering as a result of climate change. Creating an interesting and informative show garden about Burkina Faso in West Africa will allow us to speak to visitors about our development work and Climate Changed campaign”.
“We hope the garden will not only offer inspiration and hope but will demonstrate how communities in one of the poorest countries in the world are being taught the skills to adapt to their changing environment”.
