National Agricultural Award goes to Professor Allan Buckwell
Professor Allan Buckwell, Policy Director for the Country Land and Business Association (CLA) is to receive the 2008 National Agricultural Award in recognition of his exceptional commitment to the advancement of the UK’s agricultural industry.
The Award, made annually by the Royal Agricultural Society of England, will be presented at the 2008 Royal Show, 3rd – 6th July.
The judges said that Professor Buckwell has been particularly effective in unraveling the mysteries of the Common Agricultural Policy and making their implications clear to farmers – both in a long academic career at Wye College and University of Newcastle and more recently in his role at CLA. Professor Buckwell now chairs the Policy Group of the European Landowners Organisation.
On the announcement of the award, Chairman of the RASE Awards Committee, Humphrey Salwey said: “We are delighted to announce Professor Buckwell as the 2008 winner of this eminent award. His work across all agricultural matters has been of great importance to the industry and he is a clear and innovative forward thinker.”
Professor Buckwell said: "I've been privileged to work on food, farming and countryside issues throughout my career. I've enjoyed it immensely and have met so many amazing people working in and serving this sector. I was surprised and delighted to be nominated for this award.”
The awards will be presented by the President of the Society, the Marquess of Salisbury, at the Royal Show Awards Dinner and Auction on Thursday 3rd July 2008.
