ASDA sign up to sponsor the Royal Show
Leading supermarket ASDA has signed up to sponsor the Education Trail, Children’s Farm and Young Handlers Classes at the Royal Show, England’s most prestigious farming exhibition.
The Education Trail and Children’s Farm will give young visitors the opportunity to take part in themed trails around the show and provide opportunities to find out more about the work of those living and working in the countryside, how food is produced and leisure activities in the great outdoors.
“Being a sponsor of the Education Trail is a great opportunity for ASDA, following our launch of the ‘Connecting Children Initiative’ in March this year. It is important for children to understand where their food comes from, how the countryside works, its importance to life in Britain and the benefits of eating fresh, locally produced food” said Pearce Hughes, Agricultural Development Manager at ASDA.
ASDA is also sponsoring the new Young Handlers Classes, an event new to the Royal Show this year, in which stockpersons between the ages of ten and twenty one years old are judged on their ability to handle livestock.
“We recognise that the number of youngsters entering the livestock industry is dwindling year on year, and we want to encourage more youngsters to pursue livestock farming as a career to sustain a vibrant and sustainable industry for years to come” said Pearce Hughes.
