Hilary Benn to put cost sharing case to Famers at the Royal Show

Visitors to the Royal Show on Wednesday, July 8th, will have the opportunity of debating the vexed issue of responsibility and cost sharing for animal disease with Defra Secretary of State, Hilary Benn.

Defra will just have finished the main consultation period on the issue but Mr Benn is still keen to hear farmers’ views and to make the continued case for the policy change.

“We are delighted that Mr Benn has agreed to hold this policy development clinic at the Show and we are certain that farmers will grasp the chance to hear directly from him on such an important issue,” explained Royal Show Manager, Simon Frere-Cook.

“Defra has agreed to slot in this extra session so that Mr Benn can outline how policy development is progressing. It will provide a last minute opportunity for livestock farmers to speak directly to the Secretary of State.”

Attendance is open to all show goers. The debate will be held in the Warwick Complex at the Showground at 10.15 am.
